Hublot is a Swiss brand of luxury watches, founded by an Italian, Carlo Crocco, in 1980. Crocco was born in a watch maker dynasty, The Binda. Like his cousins and uncles he too grew up in the business, with bright chances of a piece of cake. Development of good workable watch designs came naturally to him. He understood dynamics of watch making as a trade from home. But it was not enough to satisfy his revolutionary mind. He loved to think outside the box.

He left his ancestral business with a vision of making something different from what was already made. He did his home work well. Studied and contemplated the possibilities of simple, original and different material. His Italian roots reflect in the Hublot design, which is a fine combination of Italian design and Swiss workmanship.

There was lot of criticism of his use of rubber for wrist band of his new watch. But hats off to his determination, not only he completed his work, but latter in the mid 90s, rubber became focus of interest for watch maker brands. The rubber Crocco used for Hublot was not arbitrarily selected. It took him three years of research to create the tempered black rubber strap. This special kind of rubber does not undergo chemical deterioration. But the jewelry shop owners have difficulty accepting watches with rubber straps. In spite of the jewelers’ reservation Hublot is seeing good sales.

An unusual fusion of materials, pure lines and functionality are trademarks of Hublot. Crocco believes his competition is Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Cartier. So is the price range of Hublot. In the post economic crisis the demand for replica fashion accessories has increased. It’s increased more because there is no visual significant difference between the original and the replica Hublot watches. Whereas the owners of the replica Hublot watches are advised to refrain from swimming and/or diving while wearing the watch.
